How to Optimise Your YouTube Videos

We’ve covered how video marketing can be utilised by property management agencies to attract clients and now, let’s dig deeper into how you can make the most out of the YouTube platform.

Just like any search engine, YouTube wants to deliver content that answers the searcher’s specific query.

YouTube’s search algorithm uses different elements in each video post to decide how that video will rank for specific search terms. These elements include:

  • Video title

  • Video description

  • Metadata

  • Number of views, comments, and likes

  • Watch time

Video title

When you search for videos, one of the first things that your eyes are drawn to is the title. The title should not only be compelling, but also clear and concise. As much as possible, insert your keyword naturally in the video title. For example, your main keyword may be “vacancy rates,” so you may want to title your video “5 Tips to Reduce Vacancy Rates for Your Rental Property.”

Video description

While the limit for video is 1,000 characters, remember that your audience may not necessarily want to read a whole essay. Aside from crucial information like calls to action and links, you may consider adding a transcript. An optimised description can also help you show up in the suggested videos sidebar, which can be a great source of views.

Tags

When adding details to your video, you’re not just telling your audience what your video is about, you’re telling the algorithm as well. YouTube uses tags to understand the content and context of your video. Lead with the most important keywords, including a good mix of those that are common and more long-tail, like “property management,” “Brisbane rentals,” and so on.

Video thumbnails

While you can always pick one of the thumbnail options auto-generated by YouTube, it’s highly recommended to upload a custom thumbnail. Next to the title, a captivating thumbnail informs the viewer what your video is about and compels them to click your video.

Subtitles

Subtitles and closed captions can boost YouTube search optimization by highlighting important keywords. If your video already doesn’t come with existing subtitles, you can upload a SRT file or have YouTube generate automated captions.
